Geological Museum of the Dolomites

The Geological Museum in Val di Fiemme invites you to a true journey of discovery into the realm of the “Pale Mountains”

The Geological Museum of the Dolomites (Museo Geologico delle Dolomiti ) is located in the main square of Predazzo in the Val di Fiemme valley in Trentino. It stands right next to the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Philip and St. James. The museum was founded in 1899 with the aim of supporting and promoting the geological value of this area, today it is the area headquarters of MUSE, the famous science museum in Trento.

An interactive exhibition on two floors looks back on the long history of the Dolomites, which have been a World Heritage Site since 2009. The extensive geological collection in the museum shows the immense importance of these mountains: 12,000 exhibits, including the largest collection of invertebrates from the Middle Triassic period in Italy, tell about it.

In winter, the Geological Museum of the Dolomites offers a wide variety of activities for all ages, such as guided tours and interesting workshops, the "Geolabs". In summer, however, you can combine your visit to the museum with a hike along the Dos Capel Geological Trail, a 3.5 km long theme trail. It is classified as moderately difficult and takes you back to the starting point with a difference in altitude of 268 metres. The didactic stations along the path were realised in collaboration of the museum with the MUSE Trento. Also recommended for families!
