Castel Drena

Castel Drena dominates the Marocche, a special natural phenomenon from the Ice Age that led to the formation of an area of more than 200 hectare of boulders

It is supposed, that Castel Drena was built above a prehistoric village in the 12th century. The first owners, a family from Seiano, used the castle to control the connecting road from Trento to Lake Garda. And thanks to this strategic position, the castle was impregnable with the methods of attack of that time, since it was flame-resistant, defended by two rows of walls and built on a dominant position on a rock. For the most part the building is Romanesque with some Gothic elements from the 16th century. Inside the castle, traces of a little church can be found which was dedicated to St. Martin.
