The origin of the castle dates back to the 13th century and is closely related to the village of Borgo Valsugana, an important Roman locality along the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate. The central part of the building surrounds a 26 metres high square shaped watchtower. According to some sources, the castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590, whereas others collocate that same event in the late Middle Ages. In 1665 it was set on fire and subsequently converted into a baronial residence.
The Sentiero dei Castelli from the centre of Borgo Valsugana to Castel Telvana, passing by Mt. Ciolino, is a great opportunity for those wanting to reach the castle on foot while enjoying the stunning panoramic landscape of the Valsugana.
Castel Telvana is a private property and can be visited only from the outside.
