Castel Telvana

Castel Telvana rises in a gorgeous panoramic position just above the town of Borgo Valsugana and guards the entire valley

Telvana Castle dates back to the 13th century. Its history merges with that of Borgo Valsugana, at that time an important stop along the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta Altinate. The core of the castle is grouped around a square watchtower, which reaches a height of about 26 m. Documents report the destruction of the castle by the Franks in 590, while other sources attribute this destruction to the late Middle Ages. In 1965 the castle was burned down, but afterwards rebuilt as as baronial residence.

Today the castle can be reached via a medieval path, the so-called “Sentieri dei Castelli”. It starts in the centre of Borgo Valsugana and leads past the slopes of Monte Ciolino to Telvana Castle.

Telvana Castle is privately owned and not open to the public.
