The medieval fortress was used to defend and control the area until the 14th century, when it was converted into a noble residence. The two towers dating back to the 12th century, form the most ancient part of the castle and had the same functions as the castle.
Following its destruction by the troops of general Vendôme in 1703, the castle was rebuilt and converted into a vast residential palace with a marvellous Italian garden.
Today, Castel Terlago is in private hands and cannot be visited.
