There are several assumptions on the origin of this castle. What is known for sure, is that it came into the possession of the Castelbarco family in the 12th century, who used it as an administrative centre for the southern area of the Princedom. Later it was acquired as a fief by the noble family Madruzzo.
Today some remains of the castle can be visited by a 10-minutes walk from the outdoor sports centre of Brentonico.
