In former times, the keep of the fortress was used to control the Valle del Noce. The Rocca di Samoclevo dates back to the 12th century, when it was a fief of the Cagnò family, as well as the seat of jurisdiction. The polygonal curtain wall and its gothic chapel below the keep, were added only in the 15th century. Over the course of time, the fortress lost its importance in favour of the underlying Castel Caldes and served as a residence for farmers and their families in the 17th century.
