MART

The MART in Rovereto is one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Italy

The MART, an important museum in Trentino, has three different seats: in Corso Bettini 43 in Rovereto, in the Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero in Via dei Portici 38 and in Trento in Via Belenzani 44 .

Until December 2002, the headquarters of the MART were in the Palazzo delle Albere in Trento. In 1991 the museum was enlarged so as to have enough exhibition space for the artworks of the famous Trentinian futurist Fortunato Depero and for the heritage of the Museo Provinciale d'Arte di Trento. The new headquarters in Rovereto are situated inside a vast complex planned by Mario Botta and Giulio Andreolli and inaugurated on the 15th December 2002.

The MART houses an inestimable heritage, including masterpieces of Italian art from the 20th century, and organises a dozen exhibitions and projects. Its permanent collection comprises about 20,000 artworks, such as paintings, drawings, engravings and many important sculptures, especially those of the Italian Avant-Garde. Besides housing numerous private collections, the museum also displays the works of Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Mario Sironi and Fortunato Depero. The total surface occupied by the MART is about 29,000 sq m. On the ground floor there are a ticket office, a bookshop and a conference room. Temporary exhibitions are shown on the first floor, whereas the second floor, dedicated to the second exhibition area, is accessible through a glass passage and stretches over 3,800 sq m. Furthermore, the MART is also complete with a specialised library and archive, both accessible to the public.
