The history of the “Magnificent Community of Fiemme”

The picture gallery of the so-called "Magnifica Comunità Generale di Fiemme" is found in Cavalese. The gallery encompasses such important documents as the first constitution of the valley or a parchment known as the "Privilegio Enriciano", by which the prince bishop Enrico III confirmed the Community its rights and autonomy.
In the picture gallery of Fiemme today numerous and valuable paintings by the local school of painters can be admired. This school existed from the middle of the 17th until the end of the 19th century. The tour through the ancient walls starts with the exhibition of the most important documents of the municipality: originals and copies of the first constitution of the valley are shown. Also family documents and former tools can be seen.
In the museum also numerous paintings of the local school of painters and a special parchment, the “Privilegio Enriciano”, are treasured. Moreover the ancient emblem of the Community visible on the façade, which displays gorgeous frescoes: six white stripes overlied by a cross, awarded by Bishop Ludovico Madruzzo in 1588.
Also accessible is the dungeon from the 19th century with its numerous notches, which tell plenty of sad stories.
