Vallagarina cycle track: Trento - Rovereto - Avio

The north-south axis of the cycle path network of the Trentino leads through the southern part of the Val d'Adige valley, called Vallagarina and characterised by wine-growing. Wines with evocative names such as Marzemino, Enantino and Merlot are cultivated in this area. From the centre of Trento, we proceed along the Adige river, past Besenello and Calliano (in the background the mighty fortress of Castel Beseno) to the area of Nomi, where there is also a roadhouse (bicigrill). A few km further south, the valley between Volano and Villa Lagarina widens, on the west side sun-drenched vineyards surround the villages. You can already see the towers of Rovereto, the main town of the Vallagarina, and second largest one of the province. The bike path proceeds to Sacco, from where we dare a side trip to the centre of Rovereto in order to get an insight into its rich history.

The cycle track stretches along the Adige river, up to the vineyards of Mori, where you can branch off onto the cycle track to Lake Garda. The Vallagarina cycle track, however, continues southwards, soon we reach the villages of the municipality of Ala. Also the centre of Ala, the "village of velvet", is worth seeing. The last section of the cycle path takes us further along the foot of the Monte Baldo to Avio. Thanks to the beautiful Castello di Sabbionara di Avio castle, surrounded by cypresses and vineyards, this village is a real eye-catcher. The cycle path ends at the provincial border near Borghetto. Along the country road you could proceed to Verona, some tracks in the surroundings of Verona are already cycle paths.
