Former racing cyclist and winner of the Giro d’Italia in 2001 and 2003
Gilberto Simoni was born on the 25th of August 1971 in Palù di Giovo. Even as an amateur he prevailed against strong competitors like Ivan Gotti and Marco Pantani. In 1994 he devoted himself completely to road cycling and became a professional rider. But a few years passed before he had his first successes. In 2001 and in 2003 Simoni won the Giro d’Italia.
Other important victories include the Giro del Veneto in 2004, the Giro dell'Appennino and the Giro dell'Emilia in 2005. The same year Simoni finished second at the Giro d'Italia and in 2006 third. In 2010 he finished his active career.
After retiring from cycling, Gilberto Simoni now organises cycling tours to wonderful countries such as Nepal, Costa Rica, Brazil, etc.
