This autumnal light walking-tour on the sunny plateau of Brentonico leads through the old chestnut groves to the medieval shaped settlement Castione
Image gallery: The magnificent chestnut groves of Brentonico
The mountain-tops of Mount Baldo are already covered with snow, but on the hills and fields of Brentonico we still enjoy the warm sun till the early afternoon. An ideal day for this light walking-tour. We start at the village centre of Brentonico. First we walk to the sports ground, which we find a little distance outside of the village (Via San Clemente). Here we take the marker no. 3, which leads us into northern direction to the chestnut groves.
The first km of this path is a nature trail, so we can also watch the info tables which tell us about flora and fauna in this area. We pass the ruin of the “Castello di Dosso Maggiore” and reach the chestnut groves. The route leads us downhill to the village “Castione” which is quite worth a visit because of its historic structure. In Castione every October a chestnut-festival takes place which lasts several days. A special association takes care of the preservation of the old chestnut groves.
