This hike in the Southern Calcareous Alps is perfect for the period between sprind and early summer when the meadows are blooming. We drive from Rovereto on the SP89 and later on on the Monte Zugna mountain road to the starting point of our hike, the Rifugio Coni Zugna mountain hut at the end of the road. A chapel and an observatory can be found nearby.
The forest path no. 115 leads uphill to the Parco della Pace (Peace Park) with its ruins of an Austrian air defence post dating back to WWI. We continue our hike downhill to the Passo della Portela through the rocky landscape between the rugged rock faces of the Coni and Selvata peaks. After a 2-hour hike we reach our destination, the Passo Buole pass.
A memorial reminds of the hard battles fought here between Italy and Austria-Hungary in 1916. Finally we follow the same route back to our starting point.
