The spring walk to the El Cason Mountain Hut, high above Lavis and the Val d’Adige valley, offers a wonderful panoramic view

On a sunny day at the end of March we decide to do a short but intense walk, from Zambana Vecchia to the Rifugio El Cason mountain hut. In Zambana Vecchia we park our car close to the church that has recently been restored. By traversing the road via the underpass, the mighty sacred building even gets more impressive.
We walk past the church and head for the Val Manara, leading to the Rifugio El Cason. The first stage of the walk stretches in the village of Zambana, which in 1955 has in great parts been destroyed by a landslide.
We cross the river rushing down to the valley and that accompanies us during our whole walk. The ascent is rather exhausting, but once you reach the top a breathtaking view on Lavis and the course of the Adige river reward all your efforts. Even if it is only March, the temperatures are very pleasant.
After about 1.5 hours we reach the Rifugio El Cason (unfortunately still closed in this period), where we relax in the picnic area and enjoy the panoramic view. From here you have the possibility to proceed, until Fai della Paganella. This is what we are going to do another day. After an extended and well-deserved break, we walk back to the starting point.
