On a discovery journey in the under-storey of the sunny slopes of the mountains at Lake Garda - this is where spring conquers the landscape very early
Image gallery: Hike in the Valley of Snowdrops in Ledro
The Val di Ledro is a high valley above the western slope of the northern Lake Garda. Between February and March, on the sunny slopes near Barcesino you can admire a sea of heralds of spring. Travelling from Riva del Garda to Molina di Ledro, you reach the turn-off to the hamlet of Barcesino. At the fountain the path no. 451 starts, leading to the pilgrimage site of the church Madonna Addolorata in a first step. Many snowdrops and primroses line the path.
The path proceeds across the forest and we reach the wide forest taking to the Val Giumella. We follow this path a little while, until we reach steep slopes covered by Easter roses. Even if we've already missed the peak of the blossom, the coloured nuances of white to rose and violet are a feast for the eyes. For our way back we stay on the wide trail instead of descending to the church. It takes us out of the forest to a scenery of landscapes that is covered by a sea of snowdrops. The large number of flowers is impressive and stands in contrast to the grey-brown forest and the snow-capped mountains.
By following the path we reach Molina di Ledro where we continue on the road of the village leading back to Barcesino, where our walk ends.
Indication: blossom around the end of February / beginning of March.
