The 2,054 m high Monte Stivo divides the Sarca plain in the north of Lake Garda from the Val d’Adige at Rovereto: climbing this mountain in early summer makes you enjoy a number of highlights

Starting point of our mountain walk in the last days of May is Sant'Antonio, a village above the Santa Barbara pass, that can be reached from Bolognano di Arco or via Ronzo Chienis (Val Gresta). The parking space is located behind the tavern S. Antonio, in the middle of fields and meadows. We follow the signpost 608 B on an asphalted trail first that transforms into a gravelled path in its course, leading us to the meadows of Le Prese.
Here, at 1,450 m a.s.l., the mountain pastures of the Monte Stivo start, which stretch up to the summit. These meadows are a feast for the eyes already in the last days of May: peonies, wild tulips, anemones, Alpine buttercups, gentians and primroses, to mention only some of the flowers transforming the meadows into a sea of flowers. This feast for the eyes compensates the befogged view towards Lake Garda today and we follow the path leading steeply up to the highest point. We walk past the mountain hut and reach the top of the mountain, providing a fabulous view on the Val d'Adige valley, from Trento to Rovereto, Lake Garda and the villages of Riva del Garda and Arco.
After a stop at the Monte Stivo mountain hut "Rifugio Marchetti" we continue on the path no. 608, past the Malga Stivo, along the western slope and down to Le Prese. For the way down we recommend this less steep alternative route. From Le Prese we walk back to S. Antonio.
