History and nature – these two words describe best the walking tour on the Alpe Cimbra Plateau, which leads us from the fortifications “Forte Dosso Cherle” to the Malga Vallorsara alpine pasture

Our starting point is the “Forte Cherle” Tavern, which is located at the road from the Passo Sommo to Villaggio Fiorentini. Here we follow the marker no. 30 (“Giro del Cherle”). Some minutes later we already have reached the remains of the Austrian fortress from World War I. Information boards tell the history and task of the fortress which was also known as “Werk Sebastiano” or “Forte Dosso Cherle”. The panoramic view stretches until the Lavarone High Plateau.
We carry on hiking along the forest path which proceeds down to the soldier cemetery. Across the street we climb up the stairs of the “Scala dell’Imperatore” (the Emperor’s staircase). Those who have enough time, can also follow the forest path up to the remains of the Austro-Hungarian military hospital. From there the forest path proceeds further through the woods for about 4 km until we reach the alpine meadows.
The Malga Vallorsara hut, one of the ancient huts of Folgaria, is idyllically located at 1,500 m a.s.l. The hut is also a rest stop and opened from May until September always at weekends and in July and August even daily. Typical dishes of the Trentino and own products can be enjoyed. After a nice break we take the same way back to the Forte Cherle fortress again.
