From Velon near Stavèl via the Malga Pecè mountain hut to the Passo Tonale: easy hike through the forests above the valley of the Vermigliana Stream, at the feet of the Presanella Group and the Ortles Alps

A day with changeable weather conditions provides a wonderful opportunity for a pleasant walk in the woods of the Val di Vermiglio valley beneath the Passo Tonale. The forest path to the Malga Pecè mountain hut starts near Velon, a hamlet along a side road of the SS42 between Vermiglio and the Passo Tonale pass.
After a 50-minute walk we reach the Malga Pecè mountain hut selling home-made cheese products. The hut is not a rest point, but nearby benches and wooden tables invite to stop and to enjoy a picnic under the open sky.
Instead of walking back to Velon along the same trail, we follow the forest path further uphill through the forest. At the wet meadows of the Passo Tonale the path crosses the SS42. Following the road for 200 metres towards Vermiglio we reach a bus stop and turn back to our starting point by public bus (if you want to take the bus, please take information about the seasonal changing time tables in advance).
