With about 530 inhabitants, Fiera is a classical holiday destination in the heart of the Dolomites.
Located at 745 m a.s.l., the origins of the village date back to the period of time around 1400 AD. This was when the valley was owned by the Austrian Empire, which resulted in an economic boost, thanks also to its copper, silver and ferric mines. Still today the Palazzo delle Miniere recalls this period of time. This mansion was seat of the so called "Bergrichter", who surveiled the mines of Primiero.
On a hill next to Fiera di Primiero, there is a gothic agglomeration of the "della Pieve" buildings. Beside the parish church, also the little San Martino church as well as the Palazzo delle Miniere are part of this settlement. Moreover Fiera di Primiero is birthplace of Luigi Negrelli (1799-1858), the planner of the Suez Canal and constructor of numerous railway lines in the Lombard-Venetian Empire and in Switzerland.
