Calavino is located amidst vineyards and orchards and has preserved its traditional rural Trentino charm. In the upper part of the village still today a rural-lordly architecture can be noticed at the Renaissance buildings. In the lower village part a medieval architectural style dominates. Several mills, smithies and workshops can be found here. Worth seeing is the Palazzo negri di San Pietro, which dominates the villagescape. This residence has a little tower and a curtain wall, which encloses a garden, a chapel and a vineyard.
Thanks to the proximity to Lake Garda, Calavino has a very mild climate which is even suited to cultivate olive trees and special sorts of wine. Starting at the Madruzzo Castle a path proceeds towards the village of Lagolo and the eponymous lake which is surrounded by ancient beeches.
By the way: every year in July the “Feste Madruzziane” take place, a weekend characterized by history. During these days Madruzzo turns into a medieval village like in times of the Madruzzo aristocratic family.
