The municipality of San Giovanni di Fassa - Sèn Jan was founded in 2018 by merging the municipalities of Pozza di Fassa (in Ladin: Poza) and Vigo di Fassa (Vich). The name comes from the original parish of Pieve di San Giovanni, one of the oldest original Ladin parishes

The municipality of San Giovanni di Fassa, Sèn Jan in Ladin, is situated at 1,380 m a.s.l. and includes the districts of Vigo di Fassa (Vich), Pozza di Fassa (Poza), Pera di Fassa, Costa, Larzonei (Larcionè), Monzon (Muncion), Passo di Costalunga (Mont de Vich), Ronch, San Giovanni (Sèn Jan), Tamion, Vallonga (Valongia). The seat of the municipality is in Pozza di Fassa.
